President's Message

Basileus

It is with an Extraordinary Sense of Pride, that I pronounce that Alpha Kappa Alpha's Centennial Convention was a resounding success!

Over 25,000 members from every corner of the globe descended upon our birth home to celebrate this seminal moment in our history. We have never witnessed such a spectacle of love. We embraced, shed tears and stood reverently as we paid tribute to our founders whose love for one another was eclipsed only by their resolve to create a sisterhood on a strong foundation of service.

Thank you for making this a memorable celebration.

While the vicissitudes of change and the complexity of the challenges we face have prompted us to adjust strategies, our core mission of sisterhood and service continue to be the twin themes that drive us. With service as our birthright, and sisterhood our legacy, Alpha Kappa Alpha has emerged as an unstoppable force. Our presence, message and spirit confirmed that—to the world.

And, so, our gathering in Washington DC was an affirmation that our Founding Mothers got it right…and did it right.

With pageantry and ritual, we solemnly reflected on our first 100 years and glorified our birth mothers.

With a sense of purpose, we transacted business, proposed programs and enacted measures that will keep Alpha Kappa Alpha vibrant.

With a conviction to represent the voiceless, all nine organizations under the Pan Hellenic Council united in a Unity March where our concerns were presented to those in the highest seats of power.

As we usher in a second century, let us begin this journey to 2108 with the same sense of faith and fellowship that inspired our original founders and incorporators to give Alpha Kappa Alpha life.

We've come this far by faith. Through the bond of sisterhood and service that connects us worldwide and with your support and commitment, Alpha Kappa Alpha will become even more Explosive, Strong and Powerful.
